  10. MHSSend is a simple utility designed to notify users of MHS
  11. applications of new mail as it arrives to the MHS gateway.
  12. MHSSend can also be used to notify users as they log into
  13. the system of how much unread mail is waiting.

  15. Documentation Audience

  17. This manual is directed to the network administrator or
  18. person assigned to be the MHS administrator of the network.
  19. Knowledge of Novell and MHS is assumed throughout this
  20. documentation and supervisory rights are required for
  21. installation.  If you do not feel you are qualified to
  22. understand and install MHSSend please pass it on to your
  23. associate who is.

  25. Installation

  27. Installation of MHSSend is very simple.
  28. 1.Create a new MHS gateway called MHSSend.  Follow the
  29.   instructions detailed in the MHS documentation for
  30.   creating a gateway.  If the name of the user who runs MHS
  31.   is not "MHS" then place the name of that user in the
  32.   gateway commands.

  34. 2.Copy the MHSSEND.EXE main program to the gateway
  35.   directory as INPOST.EXE.  When defining a new gateway in
  36.   the previous step, MHS updates the MHS directory
  37.   structure and includes a directory for the gateway.  If
  38.   the gateway name is MHSSEND then execute the DOS command:
  39.   COPY MHSSEND.EXE \MHS\MAIL\GATES\MHSSEND\PUBLIC\INPOST.EXE

  41. 3.Copy MHSSEND.EXE to a directory in your path.  A good
  42.   location would be \MHS\EXE.
  43.  
  44. 4.Run SYSCON and add the line #MHSSEND to the system login
  45.   script.  This will notify users logging into the network
  46.   of new mail.  Make certain that the path to MHSSEND.EXE
  47.   is defined prior to this line.

  49. Operation

  51. Once installed, MHSSend will be run each time MHS cycles.
  52. If any new mail is found in any of the user, application
  53. directories, a message will be sent to the user notifying
  54. him/her of new mail.  MHSSend utilizes Novell's built-in
  55. broadcast messaging system to accomplish this.  No
  56. additional drivers or memory is required on the users'
  57. workstations.

  59. When new mail is detected, MHSSend renames the new messages
  60. in such a manner as to keep MHSSend from continuously
  61. notifying the person each time it cycles, unless, of course,
  62. additional new mail arrives.

  64. Including and Excluding Users
  65.  
  66. By default, all users defined in MHS are eligible for
  67. notification.  If you desire to limit this, two Novell
  68. groups are checked prior to sending the message.
  69.  
  70. If a user is found in the group MHSEXCLUDE then he/she will
  71. not be notified.  If the group MHSINCLUDE is defined, only
  72. the members of this group will receive new mail messages.
  73. Creating MHSINCLUDE without any users effectively disables
  74. MHSSend since no users will ever be notified.

  76. Registration

  78. MHSSend is not free.  It is being distributed using the
  79. ShareWare concept that allows you to evaluate the product
  80. before purchase.  In it's unregistered form, MHSSend will
  81. only monitor five MHS mailboxes and notify those people of
  82. new mail.  The first five mailboxes are those monitored.
  83. Also, user notification at login time is disabled.

  85. To register MHSSend, complete the form below, and send it in
  86. with a check for $35.00 (U.S.) and you will receive a
  87. passcode that will enable all MHSSend features.  To install
  88. the passcode, simple create a text file called MHSSEND.REG
  89. in your \MHS\EXE directory or any directory on your path
  90. with only one line of information, the passcode.  Each time
  91. MHSSend executes, it will read this file to determine if it
  92. is registered or not.
